The traditional practices of Lent are prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Maybe a different twist on these Lenten practices would help.
PRAYER - Why don't you learn a new prayer form or be more attentive to the proclamation of the Word during Mass? How about discovering silence? Put some quiet time in your schedule.
FASTING - Fast from what separates you from God or from other people. Maybe fast from television and read a spiritual book. Fast from words that tear down and use words that build up someone's confidence.
ALMSGIVING - Give to the poor. But that may be just too easy. It lets you put distance between yourself and the needy. How can you give of yourself?
